Your everlasting presence
An everlasting presence is a lasting, interactive version of you — built from the stories, voice, and images you choose to record with The Everlasting — so the people who love you can see you, hear you, and one day still talk with you. Because this is deeply personal, nothing here happens unless you allow it. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what each permission means. You choose each one separately in My Account, and you can change or withdraw any of them at any time.
What you are consenting to — and what you are not
You control four separate permissions, listed below. Each is off until you turn it on. Granting a permission lets us process the content you have already chosen to record or upload for the specific purpose described — nothing more. You are not transferring ownership of your stories, your voice, or your likeness; they remain yours. You are giving us permission to use them to build and maintain your everlasting presence for you and the family you designate.
These permissions are never sold, never used to advertise to others, and never used to create a presence of anyone other than you.
1Clone my voice
What it means: we may use your recordings to create a synthetic model of your voice, so your everlasting presence can speak — including words you did not record yourself — in your own sound and manner.
How it’s used: the voice model powers your presence reading your written memories, answering a family member’s question in the conversational presence (permission 3), and narration within your documentary. It is used only inside The Everlasting, for your presence.
If you decline or withdraw: we do not build a voice model, or we delete the model we built and stop generating new speech from it. Recordings you made in your real voice are unaffected.
2Use my likeness and video
What it means: we may use your face, photographs, and video as part of your everlasting presence and your documentary — for example, to show you as you tell a story, or to represent you visually in the presence.
How it’s used: displaying your recorded video and photos to the family you designate, and assembling them into your documentary. We do not create fabricated video of you saying things you never said unless you have separately turned on the conversational presence and understand it may be shown with your likeness.
If you decline or withdraw: your presence and documentary use only the materials and formats you allow; we stop using your likeness for anything beyond simple playback of what you recorded.
3Build a conversational presence from my stories
What it means: we may use the stories, answers, and memories you record to build an interactive presence — a version of you your family can ask questions and hear respond, drawing on what you shared and (if permission 1 is on) speaking in your voice.
How it’s used: your family types or speaks a question; the presence answers based on your recorded stories. Responses are generated from your own content and are a representation of you — not a statement you personally made. We label the presence clearly as an AI-assisted recreation.
If you decline or withdraw: no conversational presence is built, or we disable it and it can no longer answer questions. Your recorded stories remain available to your family as recordings.
4Let my family access it after I’m gone
What it means: this is the “everlasting” part. You permit the family members you designate to continue to access, view, and — where you have allowed it — interact with your presence after you pass away.
How it’s used: the historians and family you name keep access to your archive and presence indefinitely, under the permissions in effect at that time. You decide the scope by which of permissions 1–3 you have turned on.
If you decline or withdraw: access ends according to your account’s settings and does not continue after your passing; your family retains any downloads they made while you were living.
Changing your mind, and withdrawal
Every permission is reversible. In My Account you can turn any permission on or off at any time, and we record the date of each change. Withdrawing a permission stops the corresponding future use and, where it applies (for example a voice model), deletes what was built from it. Withdrawal does not affect uses that already occurred before you withdrew, and does not delete the underlying recordings you chose to keep — you can manage or delete those separately.
Who can see it, and safeguards
Your presence is private to you and the family you designate as historians or viewers. We use your content only to operate your presence, apply access controls and encryption in transit and at rest, and never use your voice, likeness, or stories to train models for anyone else or to build another person’s presence.
